ETIKA PUBLIKASI

This scientific ethics code statement is a declaration by all parties involved in the publication process of the Historia Islamica Journal, including managers, editors, peer reviewers, and authors. This scientific publication ethics code statement is based on the Head of LIPI Regulation Number 5 of 2014 concerning the Code of Ethics for Scientific Publications.

Scientific publication ethics uphold three ethical values in publication, namely (i) Neutrality, meaning freedom from conflicts of interest in publication management; (ii) Fairness, meaning granting authorship rights to those who deserve to be authors/writers; and (iii) Honesty, meaning free from duplication, fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism (DF2P) in publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of Journal Managers

  • Determine the journal’s name, scientific scope, periodicity, and submit accreditation if necessary.

  • Determine the membership of the editorial board.

  • Define the relationship between the publisher, editor, peer reviewers, and other parties in a contract.

  • Respect confidentiality for contributing researchers, authors/writers, editors, and peer reviewers.

  • Implement norms and regulations regarding intellectual property rights, especially copyright.

  • Review journal policies and communicate them to authors/writers, editorial board, peer reviewers, and readers.

  • Create guidelines and codes of conduct for editors and peer reviewers.

  • Publish the journal regularly.

  • Ensure availability of funding sources for the sustainability of journal publication.

  • Build networks of cooperation with research institutions and related agencies.

  • Prepare permits and other legal aspects.

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

  • Match the needs of readers and writers.

  • Strive for continuous improvement in publication quality.

  • Implement processes to ensure the quality of published manuscripts.

  • Uphold freedom of opinion objectively.

  • Maintain the integrity of the authors’ academic records.

  • Communicate corrections, clarifications, and apologies if necessary.

  • Be responsible for the writing style and format of scientific manuscripts, while the content and all statements in the manuscripts remain the responsibility of the authors.

  • Actively seek opinions from authors, readers, peer reviewers, and editorial board members to improve publication quality.

  • Conduct regular internal evaluations of the scientific journal’s quality.

  • Support authors’ initiatives on publication ethics by including clearance forms in each manuscript submission.

  • Be open-minded to new opinions or views that may contradict personal opinions for the advancement of science.

  • Avoid biased decisions by not defending personal opinions, authors, or third parties, and seek scientifically accountable solutions.

  • Encourage authors to improve manuscripts until they are worthy of publication.

Duties and Responsibilities of Peer Reviewers

  • Review manuscripts and submit review results to the editor as a basis for deciding the manuscript’s eligibility for publication.

  • Not review manuscripts in which they have a direct or indirect involvement.

  • Provide suggestions, input, and positive recommendations for scientific manuscripts.

  • Maintain author privacy by not disclosing corrections, suggestions, and recommendations on manuscripts.

  • Encourage authors to revise their manuscripts.

  • Re-review manuscripts that have been revised according to established standards.

  • Review manuscripts on time according to the journal’s style and based on scientific principles (data collection methods, authorship legality, conclusions, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  • Ensure that those listed as authors meet the criteria as authors.

  • Be collectively responsible for the work and content of the article, including methods, analysis, calculations, and details.

  • Declare the source of resources (including funding), whether directly or indirectly.

  • Explain limitations in the research.

  • Respond to comments made by peer reviewers and editorial board professionally, scientifically, and timely.

  • Inform the editor in writing if intending to withdraw the manuscript.

  • Declare that the manuscript submitted for publication is original, has never been published anywhere or in any language, and is not currently under submission to another publisher.

Ethical Compliance

  • Research articles reporting animal or clinical research must, if necessary, include statements that they have been treated with approval from an animal or human ethics committee.

  • All scientific studies must be conducted in accordance with relevant national and local guidelines.

  • Each author guarantees that their research institution has fully approved protocols for all scientific studies involving animals or humans and that all experiments are conducted in accordance with ethical research principles after ethics committee approval.
